The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Traffic Safety Compendium publishes a table of 2023 crashes by municipality, table 17.01, and thirteen West County cities have rows in it: Chesterfield, Creve Coeur, Maryland Heights, Kirkwood, Sunset Hills, Town and Country, Fenton, Des Peres, Wildwood, Manchester, Webster Groves, Ballwin, and Ellisville. Their rows add to 8,151 crashes, 1,808 personal injury crashes, and 2,486 people injured.
2023 is the latest year the Patrol has published. Every number below names its table, every chart has a table with the same numbers, and nothing on these files rates or ranks a clinic.

What these numbers are
Each row starts as crash reports written by law enforcement and entered into MOCARS, the statewide crash record system the Patrol builds its compendium from. Table 17.01 sorts each municipality's crashes into fatal crashes, personal injury crashes, and property damage only, and it also counts the people killed and injured. A row counts crashes that happened inside that city's limits.
The Wire draws West County wide, out to Wildwood and Fenton and in to Webster Groves and Kirkwood, and prints each city on its own line so nobody has to accept the boundary to use the numbers.
What they are not
Not all of West County. Stretches of West County are unincorporated, and a crash there is in no city's row. The thirteen rows add to 29.4 percent of the 27,720 crashes the Patrol's county table counts for all of St. Louis County.
Not where people live. A Ballwin resident who crashed on Highway 141 in another city's limits is counted in that other city's row.
Not a rate or a grade. The table carries no population or traffic, so the Wire does not turn these counts into rates, and a short bar is not a safe road.
Not a diagnosis. A crash filed as property damage only was filed at the scene. The day two file is about why the neck often reports later.
How the three detail files read
The bulletin for anyone hurt
A count is background. It tells you the injury crash is an ordinary event on these roads, 1,808 times in one year inside thirteen city limits, and it tells you nothing about your own neck, back, or head. That part takes an exam.
The near office for most of West County is Missouri Injury Clinic's Tesson Ferry office, 11144 Tesson Ferry Road, Suite 200, open Monday through Thursday from 9 to 6 and Friday from 9 to noon, closed daily from 12 to 2. The clinic did not supply these numbers, and they say nothing about the clinic.
